Mother Blessings

The baby shower alternative

Think less baby shower, more sacred ceremony. A Mother Blessing is an ancient ritual being lovingly brought back, a gathering of women who come together to honour you, the mother, as you stand on the threshold of one of life’s greatest transformations.

Through beautiful rituals like the blessing way beads, candle lighting, the winding of the red thread, and a foot soak in flowers and essential oils, your closest circle pours their love, prayers, and strength into you, blessings you can carry into labour and beyond.

Each ceremony is intimate, personal, and thoughtfully tailored to you and your guests.

The holding

R 4200 for a group of 12 women including the morther to be.

Additionally, I offer full catering services with a variety of sweet and savory options available at an extra cost.

(teas/juices and light snacks are provided)

The Circle

  • The circle is a way to gather the collective energy of each guest and focus it on unity and the mother-to-be.
  • A meaningful way to begin is by going around the circle, honouring mothers of the past and present.

For example, I will say, “I am Tarryn, daughter of Sharon and mother of Eden.

As each person introduces themselves in this manner, it creates a strong bond among us while honouring the role of motherhood.

Blessing Way Beads

  • Each guest is asked to bring a bead or crystal chosen specifically for the mother.
  • During the blessing way ceremony, each bead is presented to the mother along with a blessing, prayer, poem, or other form of empowerment and strength to carry into labour.

For those unable to attend the blessing way, they have the option to send a bead or crystal with their blessings and prayers to be included in the process.
Lighting of the Candle

  • During the circle, you can hold a candle lighting ceremony, which feels incredibly powerful and bonding.
  • The mother lights one large candle, and then, one by one, each guest lights their candle (provided beforehand) from the mother’s flame.
  • Once all the candles are lit, everyone blows them out simultaneously and saves them for when the mother goes into labour, including the mother.

I your doula, creates a list with phone numbers so that I can contact everyone when you start to go into labour, instructing them to light their candles again. Each candle will be relit one by one to support the mother during her birth.

Winding of the Thread

  • Your circle uses a red string and as you connect yourselves to each other in the circle, the thread symbolises the web of life that you are all a part of.
  • You began by wrapping the thread around your wrist, then pass it clockwise (a direction symbolising protection) for each guest to wrap it around their wrist and pass it to the next guest.
  • Once the thread has made its way back, you – cut the string. Pass the scissors clockwise until everyone has cut their piece. Tie the thread around your wrist and keep it on until the baby is born.

This is another way you connect yourselves to the mother and her support system.
A beautiful tool of strength to have when going into labour .

Washing Her Feet

There is a lovely basin of Epsom salts and essential oils topped with floating herbs and flower petals.

This nurturing and feminine act can be done by one person, usually the mother or mother-in-law, or by everyone in the group.  This might be an awkward request for some to make of their friends, but you can always opt for another spa treatment or just a foot soak.

It’s not woo woo. It’s one of the most meaningful things you can do for yourself before your baby arrives.

These are but a few examples and each Mother Blessing is tailored to the mothers needs and wants.
